Desde hace ya tres semanas, el fotógrafo Manuel Varela de Seijas Bravo (Gijón, 1981), Manu Brabo, está retenido en una cárcel de Trípoli. Fuentes diplomáticas españolas informaron ayer de que el régimen de Muamar Gadafi justifica la detención del fotoperiodista con la acusación de haber entrado en Libia sin visado.
El Gobierno español ha tratado hasta ahora sin éxito de convencer al régimen libio de que proceda a expulsar del país a Brabo, como se suele hacer en caso de entrada ilegal en un país. Hasta el momento, el diplomático Diego Ruiz, enviado por el Gobierno a Trípoli para conseguir la liberación de Brabo ni siquiera ha logrado que Trípoli le permita visitar al fotógrafo para entregarle artículos de primera necesidad.
La semana pasada, el Gobierno libio autorizó a Brabo a comunicarse con su familia por primera vez desde su captura el 5 de abril. Por teléfono, confirmó que se encuentra "bien" y que está retenido junto a otros periodistas de varios medios.
Mientras, el Ejército libio recrudeció ayer su asedio a Misurata con la intención de controlar el puerto de la ciudad. Según una fuente rebelde citada por Reuters, tres personas murieron en los bombardeos.
Libia pidió ayer a Rusia que convoque una reunión urgente del Consejo de Seguridad, informó la agencia oficial Jana. Esta petición llegó poco después de que el primer ministro ruso, Vladimir Putin, criticara a la OTAN por su ataque del lunes en Trípoli, pues, según afirmó, el mandato de la ONU no incluye "matar a Gadafi".
