Los intentos por lograr la paz entre Israel y Palestina a través de las conversaciones indirectas iniciadas este domingo han chocado con las palabras del primer ministro israelí, Binyamin Netanyahu, quien ha asegurado que no es posible alcanzar un acuerdo 'a distancia'.
Precisamente en el mismo día en que en Ramala el negociador jefe palestino, Saeb Erekat, anunciaba el inicio de las negociaciones indirectas con Israel bajo la mediación estadounidense, Netanyahu se ha mostrado crítico con el proceso para exigir que 'pronto' se establezcan conversaciones 'directas' y no por 'control remoto'. 'No llegaremos a acuerdos ni tomaremos decisiones en temas críticos si no nos sentamos juntos en la misma habitación', ha declarado Netanyahu.
No es la primera piedra que el primer ministro israelí pone en el camino de estas nuevas negociaciones, las primeras en 18 meses, ya que en otra ocasión declaró que las conversaciones deberían iniciarse 'sin condiciones previas', en referencia a la petición palestina de poner freno a los asentamientos judíos en Jerusalén Este.
En las conversaciones indirectas participa el enviado de la Casa Blanca para Oriente Medio, George Mitchell, que este domingo ha mantenido una reunión con el presidente de la Autoridad Nacional Palestina (ANP), Mahmud Abás, quien encabeza el equipo negociador palestino. El objetivo de estas reuniones es abordar todas las cuestiones relativas al estatuto definitivo de paz.
