El jefe del Ejecutivo portugués, el conservador Pedro Passos Coelho, anunció hoy al país que 'no dimite' ni acepta de momento la renuncia del ministro de Exteriores Paulo Portas, que garantiza su mayoría parlamentaria. En una alocución por televisión Passos Coelho desoyó las peticiones de renuncia de la oposición, confirmó su continuidad al frente del Ejecutivo y subrayó que 'no abandona a su país'.
El dirigente conservador afirmó además que intentara 'aclarar' la posición del Centro Democrático Social Partido Popular (CDS-PP), cuyo líder Portas, anunció hoy su renuncia 'irrevocable' disconforme con la sustitución del ministro de Finanzas, Vitor Gaspar, que dimitió ayer, por Maria Luís Albuquerque, que tomó posesión hoy.
'Vivimos tiempos en los que no nos podemos asustar frente a las adversidades', recalcó el primer ministro, que agregó: 'seré claro, no dimito'.
Poco antes de su mensaje al país los partidos de la oposición de izquierda habían pedido de nuevo la renuncia de todo el Gobierno conservador, en el poder desde las elecciones de junio de 2011 que siguieron al rescate financiero.
'En una democracia madura, un Gobierno de coalición con una fuerte mayoría de diputados no puede ser puesto en cuestión sino es por divergencias de enorme gravedad', recalcó Passo Coelho, que lanzó varias críticas a la actitud de Portas.

'Sería precipitado aceptar esa petición de dimisión', agregó al informar de que no ha transmitido al jefe del Estado luso, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, esa solicitud.
El primer ministro luso se declaró 'sorprendido' por el anuncio de Portas, que calificó de 'impensable' y de 'amenaza de inestabilidad política' que conlleva graves riesgos en las actuales circunstancias de Portugal, pendiente de aprobar nuevas medidas de austeridad para cumplir con las exigencias del rescate.
En su opinión, una crisis de Gobierno en estos momentos pondría en cuestión las 'tímidas señales de mejora' registradas en los últimos meses y podría hacer inútiles 'los sacrificios' asumidos por los ciudadanos.
El primer ministro luso aseguró que no permitirá un nuevo 'colapso económico, político y social' en su país y se mostró convencido de que es posible concluir el programa de ajuste acordado con la UE y el Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI).
