El FBI ha detenido en el estado de Virginia (EEUU) a un pastor amish menonita por su supuesta relación con el secuestro de la hija de una mujer lesbiana en 2009. La niña despareció hace dos años junto a su madre, Lisa Miller, quien también era lesbiana hasta que decidió renunciar a su homosexualidad y convertirse en evangélica y homófoba, según relata la cadena ABC. Por esta última razón, Miller no permitía el contacto entre su hija y su expareja, lo que le valió la pérdida de su custodia.
Ahora las autoridades han apresado a Timothy Miller, un pastor amish de 34 años, por ayudar a Miller en su huida de Estados Unidos camino de Nicaragua, según revelan los diversos correos electrónicos que el religioso envió antes y después de la desaparición de la menor.
"¿Qué pasa con Lisa Miller? ¿Dónde se va a quedar? ¿Se trae a su hija o escapa por su cuenta?", decía un correo de sus padres en septiembre de 2009. El pastor, temeroso, respondía. "Lo siento, el tema de Lisa no debería ser un asunto discutido por correo electrónico. Debería de ser más bien un secreto. Rezad".
Al margen de los correos, las pesquisas conducen directamente a una red religiosa que habría ayudado a huir a la mujer con su hija. Según las investigaciones, la suegra del pastor fue la encargada de pagar el billete desde Toronto a Nicaragua, con escala en México y El Salvador. Precisamente en Nicaragua, Miller y su expareja, Joanna, estuvieron ejerciendo de misioneras. Justo donde el pastor detenido trabajaba para una asociación cristiana.
Además, Miller recibió ayuda económica de una fundación relacionada con Liberty University, una universidad cristiana en la que imparte clases de derecho Rena Lindevaldsen, quien defendió a la mujer en el jucio por la custodia de la niña. Por otro lado, los investigadores sospechan que ambas podrían encontrarse en la casa de el dueño de una empresa relacionada con la venta al pormenor de productos cristianos en Nicaragua.
