Las autoridades sanitarias de Hong Kong declararon la alerta sanitaria tras confirmarse el primer caso de gripe AH1N1 en Asia y han creado un grupo especial para enfrentar la crisis.
Un mexicano, procedente de Shanghai en el vuelo 505 de China Eastern del jueves, está infectado con el virus AH1N1, dijo el ministro de Alimentación y Salud, York Chow, en una conferencia de prensa.
Por su parte, el jefe ejecutivo, Donald Tsang, anunció en la misma rueda de prensa que se ha declarado el estado de emergencia sanitaria después de que la Universidad de Hong Kong confirmara el caso de gripe AH1N1 a las 20.00 locales (12.00 GMT).
Las autoridades sanitarias pusieron en cuarentena el Hotel Metropark de Causeway Bay, donde se alojó el mexicano infectado, y buscan al taxista que lo llevó al hotel y a los pasajeros del vuelo en que llegó al territorio.
El turista mexicano, que llegó a Shanghai el viernes en un avión de Aeroméxico, no mostró síntomas hasta su vuelo a Hong Kong, el viernes por la noche. El primer afectado con el virus AH1N1 en Asia se encuentra confinado en el Hospital Princess Margaret de Hong Kong, junto con otros mexicanos que lo acompañaban en el viaje.
Las autoridades sanitarias del territorio cooperan con las de Shanghai en la búsqueda de personas que han estado en contacto con el mexicano infectado. Mientras, en Taiwán, que mantiene intensos contactos con Hong Kong, el Ministerio de Sanidad lanzó una investigación para averiguar si algún taiwanés viajó en el vuelo 505 de China Eastern del viernes.
Hong Kong está en máxima alerta contra la gripe, ante el temor de que el primer caso importado desencadene una epidemia en el territorio, a las puertas de la populosa China.
