Un total de 149 periodistas y 112 ciberdisidentes están encarcelados en la actualidad en todo el mundo, según denunció este viernes Reporteros Sin fronteras (RSF) durante la celebración del acto 21 día de apoyo a los periodistas encarcelados, en homenaje a los comunicadores presos. Se trata de la cifra más alta de los últimos 14 años.
Malén Aznárez, vicepresidenta de la sección española de RSF, reivindicó la fórmula del "apadrinamiento" de periodistas encarcelados, que, en su opinión, representa un "seguro de vida" para "evitar la prisión del silencio".
Aznárez compareció acompañada de los periodistas cubanos Ricardo González, Miguel Galbán y Fabio Prieto, quienes recientemente fueron liberados por Cuba y se encuentran en España desde este verano, informa Efe. Todos ellos reivindicaron la utilidad de ser apadrinados y la fuerza que les dio saber que estaban respaldados por alguien mientras se encontraban encarcelados.
La vicepresidenta de RSF también defendió "a capa y espada" la labor de Wikileaks, pese al acoso que está sufriendo su fundador, Julian Assange. A su juicio, la persecución judicial a la que se ha visto sometido Assange tiene "mucho que ver con las filtraciones" hechas desde su portal.
