El Ministerio del Interior "asume plenamente" la responsabilidad de proteger la seguridad de los ex presidentes del Gobierno "con todos los medios que se consideran necesarios en cada caso" y en los términos que los propios servicios de seguridad establecen.
En un comunicado hecho público tras la polémica suscitada por las declaraciones del vicesecretario general del PSOE, José Blanco, sobre la seguridad de José María Aznar, el departamento que dirige Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba considera que esta tarea de las Fuerzas de Seguridad "debe ser respetada siempre por todos".
"Así lo exige la seguridad de las personas protegidas y los intereses del conjunto de la sociedad y del Estado, por la alta representación que ejercen o han ejercido quienes desempeñan la presidencia del Gobierno", añade la nota.
Antes, por la mañana, José María Aznar ya había respondido, a través de un comunicado de FAES, a las palabras de Blanco: las consideró "irresponsables y lamentables" y exigió al Gobierno una rectificación "urgente" al Gobierno. No le sentó nada bien al ex presidente que el ministro de Fomento revelara que dispone de 51 agentes para garantizar su seguridad. No todos son escoltas como tal: la seguridad de Aznar requiere labores de vigilancia y contravigilancia, lo que aumenta considerablemente el número de agentes.
