Un incendio se ha declarado este jueves, poco después de mediodía, en la central nuclear francesa de Penly, en la costa de Normandía, según ha anunciado la eléctrica EDF, que subrayó que no hay heridos y que las instalaciones "están en seguridad".
El humo que se produjo en un local del reactor número dos de Penly activó una alarma a las 12.20 locales (10.20 GMT) y una decena de vehículos de bomberos acudieron a las instalaciones, explicó en un comunicado EDF, que dijo que también han sido movilizados los equipos y medios de la central propios.
El alcalde de Penly, Jean-Pierre Cacheux, declaró por su parte al canal de televisión BFMTV que el incendio "no causó ni heridos ni evacuación" y aseguró que daba el suceso por "terminado".
El reactor se detuvo automáticamente, señaló la compañía, que explota todas las centrales atómicas en Francia, que generan cerca del 80 % de la electricidad del país.
De acuerdo con los procedimientos, tanto la Autoridad de Seguridad Nuclear, como la prefectura regional y la subprefectura de Dieppe, la ciudad más próxima a Penly, fueron advertidas inmediatamente del incidente, sobre el que el Electricité de France (EDF, participado por el Estado) se comprometió a dar más detalles posteriormente.
