BERLÍN.- Alemania, Francia e Italia han llegado a un preacuerdo para desarrollar de manera conjunta una nueva generación de drones europeos de vigilancia con capacidad de volar armados, según confirmaron este martes la canciller alemana, Angela Merkel, y el presidente francés, François Hollande.
Esta iniciativa, anunciada en la rueda de prensa posterior al decimoséptimo consejo de ministros conjunto, celebrado hoy en Berlín, se suma al acuerdo franco-alemán para ampliar la cooperación en el campo de los satélites de observación.
"Las imágenes son poder", subrayó el presidente francés al señalar que quien tiene imágenes propias tiene más datos sobre las distintas situaciones y puede actuar y tomar decisiones con mayor libertad.
Se trata de una cooperación "industrial, política y europea", recalcó Hollande.
El Consejo Europeo, apuntó Merkel, ya mostró su apuesta por el desarrollo de drones europeos y ahora Alemania, Francia e Italia han decidido liderar el proyecto, entre 2020 y 2025.
El objetivo, subrayó Hollande, es lograr independencia tanto en la fabricación de los aparatos como en la utilización de las imágenes.
Según el comunicado de prensa emitido por el Gobierno alemán al acabar la reunión en la Cancillería, tras la firma de un acuerdo está previsto que este año se realice un primer estudio para concretar los sistemas empleados en el proyecto.
Por su parte, el acuerdo para ampliar la colaboración en el área de los satélites implicará que Alemania tenga acceso al sistema CSO que desarrolla Francia y que París tenga acceso a las capacidades del sistema de radares SARah.
Sobre la base de este acuerdo el objetivo de ambos países es impulsar un tercer satélite CSO con las capacidades mejoradas.
