Los hospitales de Alepo, la mayor ciudad del norte de Siria, están saturados tras la ola de ataques aéreos de los últimos días, que, según fuentes sanitarias locales, se han cobrado las vidas de un centenar de personas, aseguró Médicos sin Fronteras (MSF) en un comunicado.
La ONG recuerda que el pasado 15 de diciembre los helicópteros del régimen comenzaron a lanzar barriles con explosivos de forma indiscriminada contra varios distritos del este de Alepo y han continuado hasta hoy. El coordinador de MSF en Siria, Aitor Zabalgogeazkoa, señaló en la nota que "en los últimos tres días, los helicópteros han tenido como objetivo distintas áreas, entre ellas una escuela y la rotonda de Haidariya, donde la gente espera el transporte público".
Estos ataques han saturado la red de hospitales de la ciudad y los han dejado sin apenas recursos, ya que hay escasez de medicinas y de material médico, debido al gran número de pacientes que han acudido en la última semana, algunos de los cuales han tenido que ser trasladados fuera de la localidad.
MSF destacó que la violencia está destruyendo Alepo y su sistema sanitario. Desde el comienzo del conflicto, en marzo de 2011, la mayoría de los hospitales de esta población han sufrido daños o han sido destruidos. El responsable del grupo subrayó que las ambulancias no llegan siempre que se necesitan porque reciben llamadas desde distintas zonas de la ciudad al mismo tiempo. La organización hizo un llamamiento a todas las partes, en especial al "Gobierno sirio en el momento actual", para detener las agresiones contra infraestructuras civiles como hospitales y escuelas, así como los ataques indiscriminados contra áreas urbanas.
