El fotógrafo Jan Grarup, de la Agencia Noor, ha sido galardonado hoy con el Premio Internacional de Fotoperiodismo "Ciudad de Gijón", certamen que se celebra en el marco de la Semana Negra y que este año alcanza su decimotercera edición.
"El genocidio silenciado", sobre la situación que tiene lugar en Darfur (Sudán), ha sido el trabajo premiado de Jan Grarup.
El jurado destacado "la perseverancia del autor, el compromiso mantenido con la historia que documenta, la calidad visual de las imágenes, su sensibilidad y la fuerza narrativa, así como las dificultades que entraña el ambiente hostil donde fueron tomadas".
Junto a este premio, dotado con 6.000 euros, el jurado ha decidido otorgar también un Premio Especial al trabajo de Olivier Laban-Mattei, de la Agencia France Presse, por la "excepcional cobertura fotográfica de los inesperados acontecimientos que tuvieron lugar en Irán tras las elecciones el pasado mes de junio".
El jurado ha destacado además la "cercanía desde la que están retratados los protagonistas de las protestas y la excelente calidad fotográfica de su trabajo".
El jurado ha estado compuesto por el director del Encuentro y Premio Pulitzer, Javier Bauluz, el jefe de fotografía para España y Portugal de la Agencia Associated Press, Victor Caivano, el fotoperiodista ganador de más de una docena de premios internacionales este año, entre ellos el World Press Photo, Walter Astrada y el fotoperiodista Sergio Caro, ganador entre otros premios, del Ortega y Gasset 2006.
