La esposa del actor Mel Gibson presentó el lunes una demanda de divorcio después de 28 años de matrimonio, citando diferencias irreconciliables.
En la demanda de divorcio presentada ante el Tribunal Superior de Los Ángeles, Robyn Gibson solicitó el fin de su matrimonio - celebrado en 1980 - con el actor de "Arma letal".
La pareja, que tiene siete hijos, pidió respeto a su privacidad en un comunicado conjunto.
"Durante nuestro matrimonio y separación siempre hemos velado por mantener la privacidad e integridad de nuestra familia y seguirá siendo así", dijo el comunicado.
No estaba claro cuánto tiempo han estado separados los Gibson pero una información aparecida en la página web del programa de televisión Entertainment Tonight dijo que llevaban casi tres años viviendo separados.
Seis de los siete hijos de los Gibson son adultos. Robyn Gibson ha solicitado la custodia compartida del único menor, Tom, que cumple 10 años el martes.
Gibson, de 53 años, católico ferviente, fue criado en Australia y fue uno de los actores más populares y mejor pagados en la década de los 90, en la que llegó a ganar el Oscar al mejor director y a la mejor película por su película 'Braveheart' en 1995.
Desde su polémica y exitosa película 'La pasión de Cristo' de 2004 su perfil público ha ido disminuyendo, especialmente tras su arresto en 2006 por conducir bebido en Malibú, cuando lanzó una serie de insultos contra los judíos.
