El serbio Novak Djokovic, número uno del mundo, derrotó al italiano Andreas Seppi por 6-1 y 6-4 en su debut en el Masters 1.000 de Montecarlo en algo menos de hora y media.
Djokovic faltó a la cita monegasca el pasado año debido a un problema en su rodilla y Rafael Nadal ganó el torneo por séptima vez consecutiva. En su regreso, después de haber sido finalista en 2009 y semifinalista en 2008 y 2010, "Nole" no tuvo problemas para deshacerse de Seppi por séptima vez en otros tantos encuentros.
El jugador serbio se enfrentará en octavos de final con el ucraniano Alexandr Dolgopolov, que derrotó al australiano Bernard Tomic, por 6-2, 5-7 y 6-1.
A continuación saltarán a la pista central del Montecarlo Country Club, el español Rafael Nadal, que regresa al circuito después de retirarse en las semifinales del torneo de Miami por problemas en su rodilla izquierda. Nadal se enfrentará contra el finlandés Jarkko Nieminen.
