China y Taiwan firmaron hoy un acuerdo que permitirá establecer 18 vuelos "charter" semanales entre el continente y la isla, desde el cuatro de julio, entre ambos lados del Estrecho (de Formosa), informó la agencia oficial Xinhua.
Agentes de viaje consultados en Pekín y Taiwán se felicitan por un acuerdo que impulsará el sector pero requerirá también preparativos como un mayor número de capacidad hotelera en la sla, que preve una avalancha de turistas del continente, según dijo Xie Mei-qing, dueña de un hotel de cinco estrellas en Taipei.
El número de vuelos de fin de semana se ampliará a 72 una vez que concluyan los Juegos Olímpicos de Pekín y que saldrán como los que empezarán en julio desde Pekín, Shanghai, Cantón, Xiamen y Nanjing en el continente y Taipei, Taoyuan, Taizhong, Gaoxiong, Hualian, Taidong, Penghu y Jinmen en la isla de Taiwán.
Seis compañías aéreas chinas y otras seis taiwanesas efectuarán los vuelos, que podrán tomar cualquier ciudadano en posesión de un pasaporte.
El acuerdo negociado, tras nueve años de interrupción de conversaciones, entre los presidentes de la Asociación de China para las Relaciones entre las dos orillas del Estrecho, Chen Yunlin, y de la Fundación de Intercambios para las dos orillas, con sede en Taipei, Chiang Pin-kun. Tanto Chen como Chiang dijeron sentir, desde la reanudación ayer de las negociaciones, la responsabilidad "de la misión gloriosa para la que no escatimarían esfuerzos ya que es aspiración de ambos pueblos".
