La policía rumana ha desarticulado una red que supuestamente traficaba con mujeres que llevaba al oeste de Europa y acusó a 30 personas de tráfico de seres humanos y fraude en Internet, dijo el lunes la fiscalía del crimen organizado.
El grupo, conocido como la Banda Cordunenilor por el nombre de la familia que lo controlaba, operaba en Italia, España, Alemania, Reino Unido e Irlanda, dijo un fiscal de la localidad de Iasi, en el norte de Rumanía, a Reuters por teléfono. No quiso ser identificado por su nombre.
Las víctimas del grupo eran explotadas sexualmente, obligadas a mendigar o forzadas a integrar bandas de carteristas en las principales ciudades europeas, añadió.
En los últimos años, se han desmantelado varias de estas redes en el país balcánico, que se unió a la Unión Europea en 2007 y es el segundo estado más pobre del bloque después de Bulgaria.
Rumanía quiere unirse a la zona Schengen, que permite viajar libremente por el bloque sin pasaporte, en 2011. Reforzar la lucha contra los delitos transfronterizos es una de las condiciones para unirse a esta zona.
