Miles de personas exigieron hoy en Yakarta y en otras veinte ciudades de Indonesia la dimisión del presidente del país, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, en la jornada en la que se cumplen los cien primeros días de su segundo mandato.
Varios manifestantes fueron detenidos frente al Palacio Presidencial por lanzar botellas de plástico a la policía, además de los cortes de tráfico y la quema de retratos del mandatario.
Las fuerzas de seguridad desplegaron en la capital indonesia 10.000 agentes, un número que al final resultó casi superior al de manifestantes, según las autoridades.
Esta es la segunda jornada de movilizaciones contra Yudhoyono desde su reelección, en julio del año pasado.
Las protestas más numerosas fueron por el polémico rescate financiero que el Gobierno hizo con el Bank Century a finales de 2008, durante lo peor de la crisis financiera.
El Ejecutivo concedió a la entidad 6,7 billones de rupias (720 millones de dólares o 510 millones de euros), una cantidad diez veces mayor a la inicialmente aprobada.
Los críticos consideran que la intervención no estaba justificada económicamente porque la bancarrota del banco no habría alterado el sistema financiero indonesio y apuntan, aunque sin aportar pruebas, que parte del dinero sufragó la campaña electoral del propio Yudhoyono.
El presidente, un general retirado de carácter reformista, fue cómodamente reelegido el año pasado, pero ha dilapidado sus apoyos desde el estallido del escándalo.
Los mensajes de la protesta también contenían denuncias de corrupción en el Ejecutivo, y proclamas en contra del neoliberalismo y a favor de la revolución.
