Un grupo de investigadores holandesesinformó el martes que administrar una dosis elevada deparacetamol a los pacientes con accidente cerebrovascular (ACV)y temperatura corporal alta mejoraría sus posibilidades derecuperarse sin sufrir una discapacidad grave.
El hallazgo sugiere que el analgésico de uso común, que seconoce como acetaminofeno en Estados Unidos, deberíaconsiderarse una terapia económica y amplia contra el ACV.
Se sabe que tener temperatura corporal por encima de los 37grados Celsius inmediatamente después de padecer un ACVcomplica el pronóstico, dado que por cada grado de incrementose duplican las posibilidades de un mal resultado.
Alrededor de un tercio de los pacientes con ACV tienetemperaturas superiores a los 37,5 grados Celsius.
Una dosis diaria de 6 gramos de paracetamol reduce latemperatura corporal unos 0,3 grados.
Médicos del Centro Médico de la Universidad Erasmo deRotterdam realizaron un estudio con 1.400 pacientes en el quecompararon los resultados de pacientes de ACV tratados conparacetamol y placebo.
El equipo descubrió que el 40 por ciento de las personascon una temperatura corporal base de 37 a 39 grados que tomaronparacetamol mejoró más de lo esperado.
En un artículo publicado en la revista Lancet Neurology,Heleen den Hertog y sus colegas señalaron que los resultadosnecesitan una mayor confirmación a través de un estudio másamplio pero que el paracetamol podría ser un tratamientosimple, seguro y económico para el ACV.
