El Producto Interior Bruto (PIB) por habitante en España siguió aumentando en 2007, hasta llegar al 107 por ciento de la media de la UE, con lo que amplía la distancia con la economía italiana, donde este indicador se situó el año pasado en el 101 por ciento de la media comunitaria.
Según los datos facilitados hoy por Eurostat, la oficina estadística comunitaria, España es el duodécimo Estado de la UE en PIB per cápita.
Entre los socios de la moneda única, España es el noveno país más rico, por delante de Italia, Grecia, Chipre, Eslovenia, Malta y Portugal.
La riqueza por habitante en España ha aumentado gradualmente los últimos años, desde el 103% de la media de la UE en 2005 al 105% en 2006 y al 107% en 2007.
Italia ha ido, por el contrario, declinando, desde el 105% de la media comunitaria en 2005 al 103% en 2006 y el 101% en 2007.
Los Estados miembros más ricos que España son Luxemburgo, donde el PIB por habitante casi triplica la media de la UE (276%), Irlanda (146%), Holanda (131%), Austria (128%), Suecia (126%), Dinamarca (123%), Bélgica (118%), Finlandia y Reino Unido (116%), Alemania (113%) y Francia (111%).
Eurostat precisa que la alta tasa de Luxemburgo se debe, en parte, a la gran cuota de trabajadores desplazados, que contribuyen al PIB nacional pero no son tomados en cuenta en los datos de población residente.
Por debajo de España pero aún por encima de la media de los Veintisiete está Italia, con el 101%.
Los países comunitarios más pobres son Bulgaria (el PIB por habitante equivale al 38% de la UE), Rumanía (41%), Polonia (54%), Letonia (58%) y Lituania (60%).
Eurostat también incluye datos sobre los tres países miembros del área europea de libre comercio: Noruega (su riqueza per cápita asciende al 184% de la media comunitaria), Suiza (137%) e Islandia (129%).
Recoge, asimismo, información sobre los países candidatos: Croacia (55%), Turquía (42%) y Macedonia (29%); y sobre Serbia (35%) y Albania (22%).
