Angel Villar, presidente de la RFEF, anunció hoy que el Papa Benedicto XVI recibirá en audiencia privada en la Santa Sede a una delegación de la selección española, encabezada por Vicente del Bosque, el próximo 14 de febrero.
En la tradicional cena de Navidad que la RFEF celebra cada año, Villar inauguró el 'el salón Vicente del Bosque' en la Residencia de la Federación, y afirmó que el año 2010 será inolvidable por el título conseguido por la selección española en el Mundial de Sudáfrica "donde España", dijo, "fue el mejor equipo dentro y fuera del terreno de juego".
"Trabajo, constancia, humildad", son datos que según Villar, representa Vicente del Bosque, quien recibió la ovación más cerrada de la noche por los periodistas deportivos cuando pronunció su nombre en el inicio de su discurso.
Villar se acordó de toda la familia del fútbol español -clubes, árbitros, jugadores de todas las categorías- y reiteró la importancia de este deporte en España, donde se juegan todos los fines de semana de 25.000 partidos.
El presidente de la RFEF explicó que, además del éxito de la selección absoluta, las chicas del Mundial sub '17 y el Atlético de Madrid, campeón de la Liga Europa y la Supercopa europea, forman parte del éxito del fútbol español en el año que termina.
Villar tuvo recuerdo especial para dos jugadores españoles como Iniesta y Xavi, aspirantes al Balón de Oro que entrega la FIFA, y para Pep Guardiola y Vicente del Bosque, candidatos al mejor entrenador del año.
"Es un año para el recuerdo. Y a ninguno de nosotros se nos podrá olvidar el recibimiento que tuvimos cuando volvimos de Sudáfrica", apostilló Villar.
Por otra parte, y según pudo saber EFE, España jugará un amistoso en Italia en el próximo mes de agosto.
