El Sporting de Gijón ha anunciado la contratación del exseleccionador nacional Javier Clemente como nuevo entrenador del primer equipo.
Clemente es el nuevo entrenador del Sporting hasta el próximo 30 de junio. Será presentado mañana, martes, a las 13:00 horas en la sala de prensa de El Molinón, informa el club a través de su web.
El técnico de Barakaldo sustituye en el puesto a Iñaki Tejada, quien a su vez reemplazó en el banquillo del Sporting durante los dos últimos partidos a Manuel Preciado, destituido el 31 de enero.
Se da la circunstancia de que de que el pasado 7 de febrero, y también a través de su web, el club asturiano ratificó en el cargo a Iñaki Tejada hasta el final de la temporada. El consejo de administración sportinguista le aseguró su respaldo al trabajo realizado hasta ese momento.
Tejada se hizo cargo del equipo tras la destitución de Manolo Preciado después de ocho temporadas como segundo entrenador del técnico cántabro, como antes lo fue de Ciriaco Cano y de Marcelino García Toral.
Javier Clemente Lázaro nació en Barakaldo (Vizcaya) el 12 de marzo de 1950. Ha sido entrenador, entre otros, del Athletic Club -con el que ganó dos ligas y una Copa del Rey-, el Espanyol -con el que llegó a la final de la Copa de la UEFA-, el Atlético de Madrid y el Real Valladolid. También ha sido seleccionador de España (1992-1998), Serbia (2006-2007) y Camerún (2010-2011).
