El narcotraficante mexicano Teodoro García Simental, alias El Teo, al que se responsabiliza de cientos de asesinatos en Tijuana y el norte de México, fue detenido hoy por la Policía Federal, informaron a Efe fuentes oficiales.
El Teo está considerado como un antiguo miembro del cártel de Tijuana, que comanda la familia de los Arellano Félix, pero ante las crecientes detenciones en su seno dejó la organización para establecerse por su cuenta.
Se le atribuye una gran parte de la responsabilidad en la ola de violencia que sufre México, en especial en el norte, en los últimos años.
La fronteriza ciudad de Tijuana y sus alrededores han sido escenario de numerosos asesinatos a raíz del enfrentamiento por controlar la ciudad y las rutas de contrabando de droga.
El Teo fue capturado junto a otra persona, cuya identidad no ha trascendido por el momento.
Extraoficialmente se ha conocido que su captura tuvo lugar en La Paz, capital del estado de Baja California Sur (al sur de Tijuana, situada en Baja California).
La operación se llevó a cabo de madrugada y los detenidos fueron trasladados por aire al Distrito Federal y a instalaciones de la Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (SSP).
La captura de destacadas figuras del narcotráfico es uno de los objetivos del Gobierno mexicano para este año, tras la reciente detención del líder del cártel de los Beltrán Leyva, Arturo Beltrán Leyva, alias El Barbas.
El capo fue abatido a tiros en un domicilio de la central ciudad de Cuernavaca, en un operativo de la Marina ocurrido a mediados de diciembre.
