Varios atentados acabaron el martes con la vida de catorce personas en Irak, incluyendo una niña alcanzada por la explosión de una bomba en el exterior de una escuela en el norte del país.
Los alumnos estaban saliendo del colegio tras el final de las clases en la ciudad de Mosul, cuando explotó una bomba oculta en un carro, matando a cuatro personas e hiriendo a 12. Entre ellos había una niña de dos años y dos adultos en un mercado cercano. Entre los heridos había varios estudiantes.
El artefacto detonó cuando algunos niños salían del colegio y pasaban por el mercado rumbo a sus casas, dijo la policía.
La explosión se produjo al día siguiente de un doble atentado con coche bomba en la ciudad, donde la violencia no cede pese a los esfuerzos del Gobierno y las fuerzas estadounidenses por erradicar a Al Qaeda y otros grupos de insurgentes suníes que operan en la zona.
El ataque del lunes causó 15 muertos y 37 heridos.
En un segundo ataque, la explosión de una bomba en una cuneta dirigida contra una patrulla militar mató a cinco soldados en Hilla, al sur de Bagdad, dijeron un testigo y la policía.
En Tal Afar, en el norte de Irak, un coche bomba mató a cinco hombres e hirió a 30, entre ellos cinco niños, dijo a Reuters el médico Sabih Husein, del principal hospital de la ciudad.
La violencia de los últimos días se produce mientras Irak intenta preparar sus fuerzas de seguridad para el traspaso de la responsabilidad de las tropas estadounidenses, que tienen previsto retirarse de las ciudades iraquíes a mediados de 2009 y de todo el país a finales de 2011.
Muchos de los atentados están dirigidos a reiniciar la violencia entre los distintos grupos religiosos antes de las importantes elecciones provinciales de enero del año que viene.
