Unos helicópteros de la OTAN que recibieron disparos de las fuerzas paquistaníes el jueves eran aviones militares de EEUU operando dentro de Afganistán, dijo el Pentágono.
"Eran helicópteros de EEUU", dijo el portavoz del Pentágono Bryan Whitman a los periodistas. "La trayectoria de vuelo de los helicópteros no estuvo en ningún momento sobre Pakistán".
Whitman dijo que fuentes militares de la OTAN y de EEUU estaban hablando con sus homólogo paquistaníes para determinar qué había ocurrido y asegurarse que no se iba a repetir.
"Los paquistaníes nos tiene que dar una explicación mejor de por qué ha ocurrido esto", dijo.
Frustrado por la intensificación de la insurgencia talibán en Afganistán, Estados Unidos ha reforzado sus ataques contra las milicias integristasde Pakistán este mes con lanzamiento de seis misiles y helicópteros de asalto.
Pakistán ha protestado enérgicamente contra estas ofensivas y dijo que no toleraría ninguna violación de su territorio. El Ejército de Pakistán ha prometido mantenerse firme ante cualquier agresión a lo largo de su frontera.
