Treinta y una personas han perdido la vida en los accidentes registrados en las carreteras durante este fin de semana, en el que han coincidido los conductores que iniciaban o finalizaban las vacaciones con los que se desplazaban por las numerosas fiestas patronales con motivo del 15 de agosto.
En total, se han registrado 24 accidentes mortales en los que también han resultado heridas de gravedad 9 personas y otras 18 de carácter leve. Del total de fallecidos, ocho eran motoristas.
De los 24 accidentes 13 han sido salidas de vía, 9 colisiones y uno por atropello de animal. Estos accidentes se han producido 9 por exceso de velocidad, otros 9 por distracciones en la conducción y el resto por otras infracciones.
El día de mayor siniestralidad fue el sábado: fallecieron 18 personas, en 16 accidentes, en los que resultaron heridas graves siete y nueve leves.
Durante la jornada de ayer se contabilizaron cinco siniestros mortales en los que murieron siete personas, un herido grave y cinco leves.
El viernes, desde las tres de la tarde a las doce de la noche, fueron tres los accidentes, con seis muertos, un herido grave y cuatro leves.
En el acumulado anual, hasta el 16 de agosto, se llevan contabilizados 1.231 muertos, 163 menos que hasta la misma fecha del año pasado, lo que representa un descenso del 11,7 por ciento.
Tráfico preveía que este fin de semana se registraran unos 4.725.000 de desplazamientos, un diez por ciento más que un fin de semana normal del verano.
Por ello, la DGT incrementó los medios que habitualmente dispone para dar cobertura al aumento de circulación que se produce los fines de semana del verano.
