Un incendio forestal ha dañado dos yacimientos arqueológicos situados en un valle cercano a la ciudadela inca de Machu Picchu, en el sureste de Perú, informó el miércoles el Instituto Nacional de Cultura.
En lo alto de las montañas, al menos 600 bomberos luchaban por apagar el incendio, que en ocasiones parecía estar bajo control para luego reavivarse, debido a los fuertes vientos de la zona.
Según la policía de Cuzco, los bomberos han logrado sofocar el incendio en los yacimientos de Wayna Q'ente y Torontoy, que han resultado dañados por el fuego, pero aún se aprecia una leve humareda en el valle.
El Gobierno no especificó la gravedad de los daños ocasionados a los restos arqueológicos.
Además, el fuego amenazaba con expandirse a las inmediaciones de la línea de tren que lleva a Machu Picchu, aunque hasta ahora la línea férrea continúa transportando con normalidad a los turistas y el conocido Camino del Inca permanece abierto.*.
