El director de cine Roman Polanski se plantea ir a Estados Unidos para explicarse ante la Justicia para evitar permanecer detenido durante un proceso de extradición que podría durar meses, señaló hoy su abogado, Georges Kiejman, a la emisora "Europe 1".
"Si este proceso se eterniza, no es completamente imposible que Roman Polanski decida ir a explicarse a Estados Unidos (...), donde los argumentos en su favor no son inexistentes", declaró Kiejman, letrado y amigo del cineasta.
Polanski está detenido en Suiza desde el pasado 26 de septiembre en respuesta a una orden de extradición a Estados Unidos por un proceso de "relaciones sexuales ilegales" con una menor en 1977.
El cineasta, de 76 años, tiene "remordimientos, sin duda", señaló Kiejman, que reconoce que existe la posibilidad de que el oscarizado director sea finalmente extraditado a EEUU.
Después de que la Justicia helvética estimara que el director de "El pianista" debía permanecer detenido por el alto riesgo de fuga, su abogado insistió en que Polanski es "todo menos un hombre peligroso" y le describió como un "ser sensible, generoso y buen esposo".
"El momento de la emoción ha pasado. Todo el mundo va a comprender que hay que llevar este caso a sus proporciones justas", indicó Kiejman, quien citó la "admirable carta de la víctima, escrita hace diez años".
En ella, Samantha Geimer "decía cómo un proceso público sería mucho más perjudicial para ella que para Roman (Polanski), al que había perdonado total y definitivamente y al que deseaba que pudiera regresar en total libertad a Estados Unidos", recordó el abogado.
Aislado del mundo, en su régimen de detención Polanski tiene derecho a tres llamadas telefónicas por día y emplea el tiempo en reflexionar sobre la película "The Ghost", que estaba rodando, agregó Kiejman.
