El Gobierno iraní está intentando por todos los medios acallar las críticas tanto dentro como fuera del país tras las revueltas que han seguido a la victoria de Mahmud Ahmadineyad en las elecciones. Los corresponsales extranjeros han sido avisados de que deberán abandonar el país una vez expiren las acreditaciones que les fueron concedidadas para cubrir los comicios. Teherán trata de minimizar este hecho, pero al menos dos periodistas extranjeros han sido detenidos y otros han recibido golpes por parte de la Policía, según la agencia EFE.
Según varios corresponsales españoles y de otras nacionalidades, el Ministerio de Orientación y Guía Islámica se puso en contacto con ellos para recordarles que no piensan extender sus visados. El acoso a la prensa internacional, que sufre muchas dificultades para poder informar de los actuales disturbios en Irán, comenzó el sábado, con las primeras protestas.
A varias televisiones se les requisaron durante horas la cámaras y no se les permite filmar en numerosos lugares del país. Algunos corresponsales extranjeros, considerados testigos incómodos, recibieron el sábado un fax advirtiéndoles de que podían ser detenidos en cualquier momento en las calles y de que su acrediación podría serles retirada.
Fuentes del Ministerio de Orientación Islámica negaron que desde éste se enviase ese fax y hablaron de la existencia de muchos "rumores" en el país. En cualquier caso, hay varios casos concretos de acoso a la prensa internacional. Uno de ellos es Televisión Española. La enviada especial de la televisión pública, Yolanda Álvarez, explicó que "nos han pedido que nos marchemos. Somos testigos incómodos. Pero la noticia no somos nosotros, si no ellos que están pidiendo libertad. Es un movimeinto social sin precedentes en este país y no quieren que haya testigos".
