Quiso impresionar pronto. Roger Federer, el rey amenazado, el tenista que ve cómo se está especulando en los rotativos londinenses con una posible victoria de Nadal sobre el césped de Wimbledon, quiso borrar ayer todas las dudas con su primera actuación. Lo logró.
Con su victoria de ayer frente al eslovaco Hrbaty (por 6-3, 6-2 y 6-2) Federer ha iniciado su marcha hacia su sexto título con una exhibición convincente. El número uno del mundo demostró que su victoria sobre hierba en el torneo de Halle (Alemania) no había sido un producto del azar. El suizo ni siquiera concedió un sólo punto de rotura de servicio a su rival, sirvió con muchísima potencia y colocación -logró un total de 10 puntos directos de saque- y resolvió con rapidez para centrarse ya en su segundo rival, el sueco Robin Soderling.
Ganan Ferrero y Feliciano
También ganaron ayer los españoles Feliciano López, Albert Montañés y Juan Carlos Ferrero. El primero, cabeza de serie número 31 del torneo, derrotó al argentino Brian Dabul por 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-3 y 6-4. Su siguiente escollo será el croata Roko Karanusic.
Juan Carlos Ferrero fue el primero de los españoles que se ganó el pase para la segunda ronda tras remontar al estadounidense Sam Querrey por 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 y 6-4. Por su parte, Albert Montañés logró derrotar al argentino Carlos Berlocq por 6-3, 7-6 (2) y 6-4 en tan sólo una hora y dieciocho minutos de partido. La Armada desfila a buen paso por Londres.
