EN SÍNTESIS
Adaptación de la prestigiosa novela homónima (originalmente llamada ‘Norwegian Wood'), de Murakami. Toru Watanabe es un hombre entre dos mujeres en el turbulento Tokio de los sesenta.
COMENTARIO
El caso del escritor japonés Haruki Murakami es digno de estudio. Sus novelas han logrado la cuadratura del círculo al convertirse en best sellers de culto (nótese la contradicción en términos). Así que llevar al cine ‘Tokio Blues', el libro de Murakami que despierta mayor fanatismo, se antojaba una misión delicada. La lista de damnificados podía ser enorme. Pero al director vietnamita afincado en Francia Tran Anh Hung no le faltaban credenciales. Autor de filmes preciosistas como ‘El olor de la papaya verde' (1993), ‘Ciclo' (1995) y ‘Pleno Verano' (2000), Ang Hung es un habitual del circuito de festivales internacionales. Y un fan declarado de ‘Tokio Blues'. Tanto que quizás peque de excesiva fidelidad a la letra. Aquí están las dosis de melancolía, desesperación juvenil y locura de amor que encontramos en las páginas del libro. Aunque, por algún motivo, la morosidad característica del cine de Ang Hung no acabe de funcionar bien del todo. El filme transcurre un tanto encorsetado y lánguido en su primera parte, cuando la trama recrea el Tokio universitario de los años sesenta y setenta. El director se muestra más suelto cuando pasa a retratar una residencia psiquiátrica en plena naturaleza, un ambiente donde Tran Anh Hung puede aplicar la fusión entre intimidad y lirismo campestre que le hizo famoso.
