El presidente de Zimbabue, Robert Mugabe, mostró hoy todo su temperamento y llamó "estúpidos" a un grupo de periodistas británicos que lo interpelaron durante la XI Cumbre de la Unión Africana (UA) en Egipto.
"Estúpidos británicos", bramó el recién electo presidente zimbabuense, cuando fue interpelado por periodistas del Reino Unido que le felicitaron por "robar las elecciones" en Zimbabue, según pudo constatar Efe.
La presencia de Mugabe, tras jurar ayer el cargo de presidente tras proclamarse ganador en los comicios del viernes pasado en su país, había despertado una gran expectación entre los medios de comunicación acreditados para cubrir la reunión de jefes de Estados de la UA en Sharm el Sheij, en el Sinaí egipcio.
Durante el descanso de las sesiones, un reducido grupo de periodistas, entre ellos algunos británicos, aguardaban en los pasillos del centro de conferencias la aparición estelar del mandatario zimbabuense.
Y cuando por fin lo hizo, desde luego que no pasó desapercibido: Mugabe, que se dirigía hacia el área de descanso dispuesta para los jefes de estado, se vio rodeado de una nube de redactores y fotógrafos que le cortaron el paso para tomarle declaraciones.
Preguntado por uno de esos periodistas sobre los fundamentos sobre los que se mantiene como presidente, Mugabe respondió que no contestaba a "preguntas estúpidas".
Y se marchó de vuelta a la sala, sin llegar a la de descanso, mientras sus escoltas forcejeaban con los periodistas para alejarlos del presidente.
