El consejero delegado de Opel, Nick Reilly, dijo el jueves que en este momento no hay planes de cerrar otras plantas de la marca propiedad de General Motors después de anunciar la clausura de la planta de Amberes, en Bélgica, a mediados de 2010.
Asimismo, Reilly dijo que Opel ha progresado en las conversaciones con gobiernos europeos de cara a la obtención de 2.700 millones de euros en ayudas estatales.
El consejero delegado agregó que cerca de 4.000 de los aproximadamente 8.300 recortes de puestos de trabajo serán en Alemania, y que este país está analizando las cuentas de cara a sus planes de reestructuración, para los cuales la matriz contribuyó ya con 600 millones de euros.
Reilly dijo que GM seguirá financiando temporalmente las operaciones de Opel hasta que obtenga una financiación más permanente, y que lo que la matriz termine aportando dependerá de lo que puedan obtener por parte de los gobiernos.
Respecto a la planta de Amberes, Reilly anunció su intención de vender las instalaciones, a las que calificó de "zona prime".
Además, Reilly dijo que no puede predecir el coste del cierre de la planta de Amberes sin hablar con los sindicatos, y no anticipó ninguna acción industrial de cara a la clausura.
