El barco Aita Mari, del proyecto Maydayterraneo.- MAYDAYTERRANEO
El antiguo pesquero vasco Aita Mari, habilitado como embarcación de rescate por la ONG Salvamento Marítimo Humanitario (SMH), ha rescatado a 78 personas de una patera que se encontraba en a la deriva en una patera de goma en el Mediterráneo.
En ella se encontraban seis mujeres, una de ellas estaba embaraza, y había ocho menores de edad. Las personas habían salido de Libia la noche del miércoles y en el momento del rescate el motor de la embarcación se encontraba roto, según recoge eldiario.es.
La embarcación fue localizada en aguas internacionales, después de que el Aita Mari haya pasado los últimos cuatro días patrullando en la zona de búsqueda y salvamento de Malta "debido a las restricciones que el Gobierno de España aplica a esta nave y al Open Arms", según informa SMH en una nota.
"A partir de ahora, esperamos la asignación de un puerto seguro para el desembarco" de estas 78 personas, señala el comunicado de SMH, que también indica que "los únicos puertos seguros y cercanos son los italianos y malteses".
Tras recordar que, "según la propia Unión Europea, en palabras de su portavoz, Mina Andreeva, Libia no es un lugar seguro", el comunicado de SMH recalca que, "en cumplimiento con la legislación internacional, el capitán del Aita Mari tiene el derecho a navegar la menor distancia posible".
"En los dos últimos días, el Ocean Viking y el Open Arms también han realizado rescates en la zona. Y, ahora esperan puerto de desembarco", concluye el texto de SMH.
El Aita Mari zarpó el pasado 12 de noviembre de la isla griega de Lesbos, donde había desembarcado ayuda humanitaria, hacia la zona SAR maltesa para continuar realizando labores de salvamento "tanto de apoyo a otros barcos solidarios" como para "atender a cuanta embarcación a la deriva se encuentre".
