La Unión Europea (UE) aprobó hoy formalmente el envío de una misión civil de unos 200 observadores a las zonas de seguridad situadas en territorio georgiano en torno a Osetia del Sur y Abjasia, anunció hoy la presidencia de la UE.
Los ministros de Exteriores comunitarios aprobaron sin discusión la llamada "acción común", un documento que establece la base jurídica del despliegue, aunque aún no se ha producido en el Consejo de Ministros el debate político sobre la situación en Georgia.
El despliegue de los observadores civiles de la UE debe tener lugar antes del 1 de octubre, a fin de permitir la retirada de las tropas rusas situadas en suelo georgiano más allá de las dos regiones secesionistas, que debe producirse para el 11 del mes próximo.
