Al menos 38 personas murieron hoy y 60 resultaron heridas en un doble atentado suicida perpetrado en un edificio gubernamental de la conflictiva región tribal paquistaní de Mohmand, en la frontera con Afganistán, informó a Efe una fuente de la Policía local.
El ataque ocurrió en la localidad de Ghalanai, la capital de la demarcación, en la oficina del jefe de la Administración Política de Mohmand, cuando estaban reunidos una delegación política y varios líderes tribales pertenecientes a un comité de paz.
Tras las explosiones, las fuerzas de seguridad paquistaníes acordonaron el lugar, donde se ha impuesto el toque de queda.
Dada la ausencia de buenos centros médicos en la zona, algunos de los heridos están siendo trasladados a hospitales de las cercanas ciudades noroccidentales de Peshawar y Charsada, informaron los medios paquistaníes.
El primer ministro paquistaní, Yusuf Razá Guilani, condenó el ataque, que calificó de "acto inhumano y brutal" de "insurgentes que no tienen respeto hacia ninguna religión", de acuerdo con un comunicado difundido por su oficina.
El pasado julio se registró otro doble atentado en la localidad de Yakaghand, también en Mohmand.
Entonces, las explosiones provocadas por dos terroristas suicidas contra una sede gubernamental acabaron con la vida de al menos 52 personas y heridas a un centenar.
El Ejército paquistaní combate actualmente a los extremistas en varias demarcaciones del cinturón tribal fronterizo con Afganistán y en otros puntos del noroeste del país.
