Del 26 al 28 de junio, la ciudad manchega de Alcázar de San Juan vuelve al pasado con su Fiesta de los Moros y Cristianos. Tres días en los que, coincidiendo con la festividad de San Juan, se ponen en escena una serie de representaciones que trasladan a habitantes y turistas a la época medieval.
La fiesta comienza con la Vela de Armas, una recreación de la ceremonia de nombramiento de los aspirantes a ingresar en la Orden de los Caballeros del Hospital de San Juan de Jerusalén. Esta puesta en escena comprende un recorrido por diversos lugares claves del Alcázar medieval.
Los desfiles de los bandos de Moros y Cristianos constituyen quizás el momento más llamativo de estas jornadas. Los trajes y estandartes de época se mezclan con la música y el olor de la pólvora de las demostraciones de fuego de arcabucería. La batalla nocturna entre los dos bandos, el torneo medieval y los espectáculos de baile completan las actividades.
Para lograr una mayor ambientación se organiza durante estos días un mercado medieval en la localidad, que se completa con comidas y cenas medievales en las que se recrean las tradiciones y costumbres de este período. Una gran traca final y fuegos artificiales cierran estos tres días en los que Alcázar de San Juan pretende convertirse en un gran escenario en el que recrear su propio pasado.
