El ala-pívot Pau Gasol, que se proclamó campeón de la NBA después de la victoria por 86-99 de su equipo sobre los Magic de Orlando en el quinto partido de las Finales para ganar la serie por 4-1, dijo que estaba viviendo algo "maravilloso" y "único".
"Todo ha sido increíble, sencillamente, un día maravilloso, de verdad, un día maravilloso", declaró Gasol al concluir el partido para convertirse en el primer español en la historia de la NBA que logra un anillo de campeón.
Gasol, que aportó de nuevo un doble-doble, 14 puntos y 15 rebotes, dijo que desde el comienzo de la temporada todo el equipo tuvo una motivación especial por luchar por el título, pero que él lo sintió como algo personal.
"Había sido frustrante la manera como perdimos ante los Celtics y la forma como se me criticó por mi participación en algunos momentos de la serie", comentó Gasol. "Ahora he demostrado que puedo jugar contra cualquier rival y circunstancias".
Gasol, que fue la clave en el marcaje de la estrella de los Magic, el pívot Dwight Howard, dijo que había sido un gran reto enfrentarse a un jugador tan poderoso.
"Todo los compañeros me ayudaron, pero creo que no dejé ninguna duda, que hice mi trabajo y la sensación que ahora tengo es simplemente, maravillosa, única", señaló Gasol. "He cumplido con mi trabajo y eso también me hace sentir feliz".
