El presidente de la Confederación Española de Organizaciones Empresariales (CEOE), Gerardo Díaz Ferrán, ha considerado "imprescindible" la continuidad de la central nuclear de Santa María de Garoña (Burgos) tras el informe favorable del Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear (CSN).
Durante su intervención hoy en un curso sobre la crisis organizado por la Asociación de Periodistas de Información Económica (APIE) y el BBVA, Díaz Ferrán ha defendido que en España hay que seguir apostando por la energía nuclear que, ha dicho, requiere un "debate sereno" porque no se puede prescindir de ella.
En el caso concreto de la central burgalesa, el presidente de la CEOE ha pedido que el Gobierno renueve a principios del próximo mes la licencia de funcionamiento de la planta solicitada por su propietaria Nuclenor -participada a partes iguales por Endesa e Iberdrola-.
Para tomar esa decisión, el Gobierno cuenta desde el pasado 5 de junio con el informe preceptivo del CSN, que es partidario de ampliar en una década la licencia de funcionamiento de Garoña si se cumplen determinadas condiciones
Al ser positivo, el informe del CSN no es vinculante para el Ejecutivo, que podría decretar el cierre de Garoña, diseñada inicialmente para funcionar hasta 2011.
En la misma jornada, el secretario de UGT, Cándido Méndez, insistió en que España no puede prescindir de ninguna fuente de energía, al tiempo que consideró que las renovables no podrán sustituir plenamente otros suministros.
Además, Méndez pidió que se abra el debate sobre el modelo energético que quiere tener España de aquí a 30 años, ya que es más prioritario que otras discusiones como el futuro del sistema de pensiones, pues las previsiones sobre energía son "muy preocupantes".
