España ha recibido hasta marzo 9 millones de turistas extranjeros, lo que supone un aumento de un 2,9 % con respecto al mismo periodo de 2010, según la encuesta de Movimientos Turísticos de Fronteras (FRONTUR) que elabora el Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio.
El incremento es diez veces superior al que se registró en el primer trimestre de 2010, que fue de un 0,3 %.
Durante los tres primeros meses de este año llegaron 256.592 turistas más, una cifra que se apoya en el crecimiento de marzo, con 3,56 millones, un 0,6 % más que en el mismo mes de 2010, pese a que el año pasado la Semana Santa se celebró en ese periodo.
Reino Unido sigue siendo hasta marzo el principal mercado emisor, con 1,8 millones de turistas, aunque registra un retroceso de un 4,8 % respecto a 2010. Después se sitúa Alemania, con 1,47 millones, y una disminución de un 3,7 %.
Según los datos hechos públicos el Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), la estancia media de viajeros fue de 3,09 días, el número total de viajeros ascendió a 5,8 millones mientras que, en todo el país, se cubrió el 46,3 por ciento de las plazas ofertadas.
Canarias lideró en el mes de marzo la ocupación hotelera, con un 76,6%, muy por delante de Baleares y Madrid, con grados de ocupación del 54 y del 50%, respectivamente. La Comunidad Valenciana se encuentra en cuarto lugar con un porcentaje de ocupación del 46,96 %, por encima de la media nacional.
A estas comunidades les siguen Andalucía y País Vasco, que rozaron el 40%, y Murcia, con el 37,6%.
