"La caja de Pandora", un drama de la directora turca Yesim Ustaoglu, se hizo el sábado con la Concha de Oro en la 56 edición del Festival de San Sebastián.
Desde que fuera proyectada en la Sección Oficial del certamen donostiarra, donde competía con otras 14 cintas, "La caja de Pandora" se perfiló como una de las favoritas con su conmovedora mezcla de críticas al conformismo, conflictos generacionales y la enfermedad del Alzheimer.
Cuarto largometraje de Ustaoglu tras "Viaje al sol" (1999), "Bulutlari Beklerken" (2003) y "Waiting for the clouds" (2004), la película plantea una reflexión sobre el lugar al que pertenecemos.
La historia narra el viaje de tres hermanos, que descubren que apenas se conocen, en busca de su madre desaparecida, y del vínculo que se crea entre la anciana y su nieto cuando toda la familia intenta asumir la dura enfermedad del Alzheimer que padece la mujer.
El papel de la abuela valió a su protagonista, la actriz francesa Tsilla Shelton, la Concha de Plata a la mejor interpretación femenina, galardón que este año se duplica para distinguir también el trabajo de Melissa Leo en "Frozen River", de Courtney Hunt.
La Concha de Plata al mejor intérprete recayó en Oscar Martínez, protagonista de "El nido vacío", del argentino Daniel Burman, cuya película se alzó además con el reconocimiento a la mejor fotografía para Hugo Colace.
El británico Michael Winterbottom se llevó el premio al mejor director por "Génova", mientras que el Premio Especial del Jurado fue para "Two-legged horse", de la iraní Samira Makhmalbaf, por su retrato de un niño mutilado por las minas antipersona cuyo padre contrata a otro pequeño indigente para que le sirva de cabalgadura.
