El presidente de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, llegó hoy a Caen (Normandía) para participar en los actos de conmemoración del 65 aniversario del Día-D, durante los cuales también mantendrá una reunión con su colega francés, Nicolas Sarkozy.
Acompañado de su esposa, Michelle, Obama llegó a Caen, donde se reunirá con Sarkozy, a bordo de una versión más reducida de su avión Air Force One tradicional, procedente de París.
Tras una ceremonia de recepción en la Prefectura de Caen, los dos mandatarios mantendrán una reunión en la que abordarán asuntos como la situación en Oriente Medio o la crisis económica mundial.
Sus conversaciones continuarán en un almuerzo de trabajo, tras lo cual se desplazarán a Colleville, donde se encuentra el Memorial y Cementerio Americano, para participar en las conmemoraciones del Desembarco de Normandía en las playas denominadas Omaha, Utah, Juno, Gold y Sword, que marcó el comienzo de la ofensiva aliada en Europa el 6 de junio de 1944
A los actos de conmemoración asisten también el príncipe Carlos de Inglaterra, el primer ministro británico, Gordon Brown, y de Canadá, Stephen Harper, en representación de los países que participaron en el Día D.
Obama, que el viernes visitó en Alemania el campo de concentración de Buchenwald, tiene un interés personal en participar en los eventos de hoy.
Uno de sus tíos abuelos, y su propio abuelo, desembarcaron en Normandía en los días siguientes al Día D.
