El presidente del Gobierno y secretario general del PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, clausurará este martes en Santo Domingo la reunión del Consejo de la Internacional Socialista, en el que se intentará consensuar una posición común sobre Venezuela.
La visita de Sánchez ha despertado gran expectación en la reunión,a la que asisten representantes de 145 partidos socialdemócratas de todo el mundo, muchos de los cuales han pedido un encuentro bilateral con el mandatario español, que no podrá celebrar ninguno ya que nada más intervenir en el foro partirá de viaje oficial hacia México.
Sánchez, según fuentes consultadas, centrará su discurso en el combate contra el populismo, la exclusión social, los objetivos del desarrollo sostenible y las políticas de género, como pilares de futuro de la socialdemocracia.
En la reunión se debatirá, entre otros temas, de como combatir la pobreza y la desigualdad, así como la apuesta por el multilateralismo, o de cómo proteger a las democracias de las "fakes news" y los ciberataques.
Pero, la patata caliente estará en una resolución que este lunes se estaba debatiendo sobre Venezuela, de cuyo país hay dos partidos socialdemócratas en el encuentro.
Sánchez, que va encaminado a liderar la Internacional Socialista, quiere buscar una resolución común que no se presenta nada fácil, y lo más cercana a la posición que mantiene la Unión Europea, pero el texto no se conocerá hasta la clausura del cónclave socialdemócrata.
El líder socialista ha ido al encuentro acompañado del secretario ejecutivo de Relaciones Internacionales, Héctor Gómez; y de la secretaria ejecutiva contra la violencia de género, Susana Ros, quienes participarán en varias sesiones vinculadas a sus respectivas áreas.
Sánchez fue nombrado vicepresidente de la Internacional Socialista en julio de 2017, en sustitución del presidente de Asturias, Javier Fernández.
